Search Wayne County Jail Inmates

Wayne County Jail is the local custody center for Wayne County, Georgia, and the main place to look up inmates held after a local arrest. The jail roster covers current county detainees, recent bookings, and booking-date searches, while sentenced state and federal prisoners use separate systems. A Wayne County Jail roster search should start with the county inmate portal, then move to jail staff, county records, or court records when a person is not listed online.

Wayne County Jail Overview

Wayne County Jail is a county jail operated by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. It is used for adult county detainees, new bookings, people waiting for bond or first appearance, sentenced misdemeanants, local holds, and people waiting for transfer to another agency. Sheriff Robert "Chuck" Moseley is named on the official Wayne County Sheriff's Office page as the elected sheriff. The sheriff administration office is separate from the jail, which matters for visits, bond questions, and records routing.

The jail is not the same system as FCI Jesup, the federal Bureau of Prisons complex also located in Wayne County. A person arrested on a local Wayne County matter may appear on the county roster. A person serving a federal sentence at FCI Jesup is searched through the BOP locator. A person sentenced to a Georgia state prison is searched through the Georgia Department of Corrections offender query, not through the Wayne County Jail roster.

The Wayne County jail location page lists the jail address, phone, and fax for public contact.

That county location record is the best starting point when a visitor needs the jail, rather than the sheriff administration office downtown.

Wayne County Jail Population

Wayne County has two useful jail capacity sources, and they do not use the exact same number. A county-hosted ACCG report presented in 2019 states that the jail had 172 beds. Vera Institute's Incarceration Trends dataset reports 170 rated beds for 2015 through 2022, 179 beds for 2023, and 182 beds for 2024 through 2026. The county report is the strongest local source for a single bed count. Vera is better for trend data because it places the same county in a multi-year dataset.

Vera's total jail population figures show a clear rise in recent years. The total was 100 in 2020, 105.25 in 2021, 115 in 2022, 116.75 in 2023, 109.5 in 2024, 139 in 2025, and 160 in 2026. Comparing sources needs care. Using the county 172-bed figure and Vera's 2026 population of 160, the jail was near capacity. Using Vera's 182-bed capacity for 2026, the same population was lower as a share of capacity. No official Wayne County overcrowding order, consent decree, or population cap was found in the research set.

Wayne County Jail Roster Lookup

The official inmate lookup path is the Wayne County GA Inmate Information portal on OffenderIndex. It has tabs for Current Inmates, Bookings Over Last 24 Hours, and Inmates by Booking Date. The public roster is free and no login was visible during research. It is the correct place for Wayne County Jail custody, but it is not a federal prison locator, a state prison locator, or a full court case system.

  1. Open the Wayne County OffenderIndex portal and start with the Current Inmates tab if the person may be in jail now.
  2. Search by first name, last name, or both. The page did not publish a minimum character rule.
  3. Use Bookings Over Last 24 Hours for a very recent arrest, then filter the results by name.
  4. Use Inmates by Booking Date when the booking date is known or when a wider date search is needed.
  5. Call Wayne County Jail if the person is not online, if the booking is new, or if release and hold details are unclear.

The portal has a hidden previous-inmate option in its code, but Wayne County's inspected public setup did not show that checkbox. That means older release records may need a direct jail call or an open records request instead of a roster search.

The Wayne County OffenderIndex roster shows the tabs used for current inmate and booking-date lookup.

Those tabs are useful because new arrests, current custody, and older booking-date searches do not always return the same results.

Wayne County Jail Contact

Use the jail phone for custody, booking, property, mail, visitation, phone, commissary, and bond questions tied to a person in custody. Use the sheriff administration number for sheriff's office business. Use the county Open Records Officer when a formal county records request is needed. The jail, sheriff administration office, and county administration office are three different public counters.

Wayne County Jail Visits

No official Wayne County Jail visitation schedule, dress code, visitor ID rule, locker rule, phone vendor, video visit vendor, or commissary vendor page was located in the county and sheriff sources reviewed. That gap should not be filled with rules from another county. Call the jail before travel, confirm the inmate is eligible for a visit that day, and ask whether the visit is in person, video based, attorney only, or restricted by housing status.

Visitors should bring government photo ID and avoid bags, phones, weapons, tobacco, drugs, and any item that could be treated as contraband. A jail may deny entry because of a court order, behavior rule, dress rule, housing lockdown, medical restriction, or a visitor's warrant status. These are practical checks, not a published Wayne County schedule.

Wayne County Jail Mail and Money

Official Wayne County pages did not publish jail mail format, inmate phone vendor, video vendor, commissary vendor, money deposit methods, deposit fees, or kiosk rules. The county budget does include jail commissary expense and inmate supply lines, which confirms these jail functions exist, but it does not name a public vendor or a family deposit process.

Phone CallsNo official vendor foundAsk jail staff how phone accounts are set up.
CommissaryNo official vendor foundAsk about deposit options and limits.
Money DepositsNo fee schedule foundDo not mail funds until the jail confirms current rules.

For bond, the roster may display Total Bond, and the sheriff service-fee page lists a local fee for taking bonds in criminal cases. Still, a bond amount is not the same as release approval. Holds, detainers, no-bond orders, or another agency pickup can keep a person in custody.

Wayne County Jail Booking

A local arrest may come from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Jesup Police Department, another local agency, or a state or federal officer. If the case is handled in local Wayne County custody, the person is transported to Wayne County Jail for intake. Jail staff record identity details, booking photo, physical description, charges, warrant numbers, bond fields, and other data used by the public roster when records are available.

The roster template shows fields for photo, name, status, sex, height, weight, arrest date and time, days in jail, total bond, charge details, sentence text, release date, and visitation text. Some fields exist in the platform but were configured off in the inspected public view, including address, arresting officer, location, DOB, and public history tabs. A missing field is not proof that the record does not exist. It may mean Wayne County does not publish that field online.

Detainer
A request from another agency to hold the person for another case, court, state, federal agency, parole, probation, or immigration matter.
PR Bond
A personal recognizance release based on a promise to appear, often with court conditions and no upfront cash.
Classification
The jail process that assigns housing and security level after booking, medical screening, and custody review.

Wayne County Jail Records

Booking records and jail roster records are not the same as court records. The roster starts with jail intake and arrest-facing details. Formal criminal case records are maintained by the Clerk and Judicial Division after a case is filed in Superior Court, State Court, Drug Court, or another proper court. Juvenile records have access limits under the county Judicial Division's public information, so a juvenile matter should not be expected to appear like an adult jail or criminal case file.

For a person who moves out of Wayne County Jail, the search path changes. Sentenced Georgia prisoners move to the GDC offender query. Federal sentenced prisoners use the BOP inmate locator. ICE detainees use the ICE locator. VINELink may help with custody or release notifications where agency data is available, but it is not a substitute for the jail roster or a formal records request.

Note: Confirm custody, visit eligibility, and mailing rules with Wayne County Jail before travel or sending property.
